Home School Link Worker

READEI would like take an opportunity to introduce myself to the families at Salfords Primary.

My name is Emma Read and I joined the school in September 2022 as Salfords ‘Home-School-Link-Worker’, three mornings a week. I have really enjoyed getting to know the wonderful staff, children and families that attend this lovely school and I have been made to feel very welcome.

My role within the school is to be available to parents and carers of the children who attend here. Life isn’t easy for a lot of families at the moment and I am someone you can speak to if you are having personal, family or financial difficulties. I offer a listening ear and can make referrals or signpost you to agencies and charities who can offer you the support you need. I work in a private space in school where I am able to offer help with completing forms, making applications, creating CV’s or making difficult phone calls. Anxiety often makes these tasks feel overwhelming, so if there is something I can help you with, please email me or call the school and ask to speak to me.

It can be hard to ask for help but it can be the first step towards improving your life. I am an empathic person and I will listen and help without judgement.

As a mum of 2 young children myself, I face many of the day to day parenting challenges that all of you face. Like you I find my way through, with lots of trial and error! I practice trying not to be too hard on myself when I don’t ‘get it right’ and I reflect (a lot) on how I manage difficult situations, always hoping that I am not just repeating history!

I have recently been introduced to the ‘Parenting Puzzle’ which is a 10 week Nurturing programme that parents can attend, to learn about ‘Positive Parenting’. I have been reading the ‘Manual’ that goes with this Nurture Programme and have found some great parenting tips that I would like to share with you each week. Nothing changes if you don’t try something new, so I hope some of these tips make a positive difference to you and your family. Do let me know your thoughts and share your successes! Email me on: e.read@salfordsschool.org
