R.E and P.S.H.C.E

RE

RE is taught throughout both Key Stages 1 and 2 on a weekly basis at Salfords Primary School as discrete lessons, using a modular system based upon the Surrey Agreed Syllabus for RE. Christianity, Judaism and Islam are taught throughout all year groups with the introduction of Hinduism and Buddhism in Years 5 and 6.

We approach the curriculum in a practical as well as theoretical way enabling the pupils to gain knowledge and understanding through experiential teaching.

Visits to different places of worship and visitors from different faiths into the school are an integral part of our teaching. We have close links to Christ the King Church (Salfords) and Spark Fish (Christian based educational charity working with and in local schools).

PSHE

PSHE is taught throughout both Key Stages 1 and 2 on a weekly basis at Salfords Primary School as discrete lessons. Over the course the academic year a different topic is taught each half term throughout the school, with specifically linked key questions being asked to year group.

We use the medium of drama and art alongside written work to explore the key issues and questions which do arise through PSHE. Our goal is that through the creative arts the children are able to express themselves and learn more deeply about their own uniqueness and relationships to others.

Effy the Elf

Effy is the school Elf who helps us to underpin the key values of our school. This little character can be found in each classroom and is used in the weekly pastoral assembly. The children are frequently set tasks by Effy to do as class with the work then being displayed on our Effy the Elf noticeboard in the main school hall. The children very quickly grow a fondness for this character and become intrigued by the jobs she will set for them next! All of our Effy related tasks and activities underpin our PSHE curriculum and seeks to embed our school values into the hearts and minds of our children and their approach to learning.
