Science

Science impacts on many aspects of our daily lives, at work, at school and at home. Our dependence on science requires that all pupils develop a high level of scientific literacy. Our primary Science curriculum offers pupils a comprehensive, stimulating programme from Reception to Year Six.

It also provides an excellent foundation for the study of science subjects in the post-primary setting. Most importantly, it cultivates a positive attitude to science and provides pupils with opportunities to experience the excitement of working as a scientist.

Children will complete scientific investigations which encourage hands on learning and develops the deeper thinking process.

The national curriculum for science aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
  • develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
  • are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
