Eagles

Welcome to Eagles!

Wow, what a busy year it has been so far. Thank you for all your hard work and continued support as we still have far to go! Spring is an extremely exciting term, focusing on ‘The Americas’ as our topic. We will be continuing to learn our new school language, Spanish that links nicely to our topic.

English

This half term we will be focussing on interweaving description and dialogue within our own fantasy stories. The children, uncovering the reasons why the town of Chaperon has been destroyed, will write a new chapter for the story. Follow Rouge as she begins to uncover her past…http://www.literacyshed.com/the-fairy-tale-shed.html

Maths

This half term we will be focussing on algebra, ratio and proportion before tackling some tricky geometry. Children will be learning how to read and draw co-ordinates within the four quadrants and reflect and translate simple shapes on a co-ordinates grid. We will still be taking a weekly arithmetic test on Fridays.

Science

Our focus this term in science is all things living! We will be looking at classifying animals and plants, as well as learning about how animals adapt to suit their surroundings. The children will be researching their favourite animal and creating a fact-file about them. To top it all off, Year 6 have an awesome trip to London Zoo on the 29th March. Here children will be able to come face to face with a variety of animals and their habitats.

RE

Children will be learning about Islam, they will be looking at where Islam was founded and who founded the Muslim faith. They will research the Five Pillars of Islam and explore the key beliefs held my Muslims.

Music

In music, we will be looking at the birth of Hip-Hop. The children will be learning and performing ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-air’, as well as compare the song to other Hip-Hop songs released around the same time.

PE

PE is on a Friday afternoon. Please make sure that your child has a clean PE kit for that day including t-shirt, shorts, trainers and socks (especially important).

If you have any questions at all, please come and see me after school,

Mrs Balls and Mr Llewelyn

I'm so glad to be following the children into Year 6 this year, it's going to be a busy year which is going to be a challenging but enjoyable time for us all.

Planners

New planners have been provided to ensure that each child practises their spellings. We will have a spelling test every Monday and new words will be given out too. You can keep up to date on your child's progress as the test and scores are documented in the planner. Please practise throughout the week using the Look-Say-Cover-Write-Check way.

In Year 6, we are challenging the pupils to read to an adult or older sibling as many times as possible. Certificates will be handed to children who read 25 (Bronze), 50 (Silver) and 100 (Gold) times. We would appreciate it if you were able to comment on how your child reads along with a signature.

English

We will be looking heavily at narritive/story writing this term, our first story is Rose Blanche. This story is linked with our topic of 'Britain since the 1930s' as it involves a child living during World War II.

Maths

This half term we will be focussing on the properties of a number and the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to build their confidence further with calculation methods.

Science

The children will link their learning of World War II with our topic of 'Electricity'. Pupils will explore equipment and utilise a variety of circuits to develop an artistic scene from the war.

RE

Contemplating the 'Buddhist way of life' will interest the children's learning in RE as they will explore the Four Noble Truths and how Prince Siddhartha became Buddha.

Computing

Using the new school laptops will enhance the children's research regarding how Britain has changed since the war. The pupils will have the opportunity to create propaganda posters to keep the community's spirits positive.
