Welcome to Year 5!

After a wonderful opening topic (Warriors Unleashed), the children will now be learning about the Ancient Egyptians. Within the next eight weeks, we will develop their learning through drama, music and stories from other cultures to build their knowledge of this great civilisation. The children will continue to see more evidence of the Egyptians within English and Maths lessons to build cross-curricular links. Having greater access to the laptops will ensure that our pupils can retrieve and present information in a variety of ways.

To deepen their understanding and to build on these creative elements in school, we have included several enrichment tasks in their new homework menu. Please take the time to support your child when completing their homework to share their excitement of this topic. After recently assessing the children's reading levels, we appreciate the time that you spend listening and reading to your child. There has been a noticeable trend to highlight the success that parents  - along side daily opportunities in class - have when time is dedicated to reading their scheme readers.

Please be aware that our PE day has changed from Wednesday to Thursday due to changes within our timetable. We have been impressed with the consistency that Year 5 children have when bringing in their Salfords PE kits. If your child does not have a Salfords PE kit (as it is being ordered or misplaced), could you please try to ensure that blue or black coloured items of clothing are used.

Finally, we would like to acknowledge the support you continue to give as parents to our Year 5 children and Salfords Primary School. Our pupils try to show as many school values as possible on a daily basis because they aspire to be great role models for our younger children!

If you ever have any queries or questions please do not hesitate to contact either class teacher.

Thank you and 'Be your best'!
