Blackbirds & Bullfinches

Welcome to Year 2!

In Year 2 this year, the children will be immersing themselves within our topics of:

  1. Rocking in the Rainforest
  2. Brilliant Brazil
  3. Where the Wild Things Are
  4. Coastal Crisis
  5. Clever Castles
  6. Mysterious Monarchs

Over the year, the children will get to develop their geographic, historical enquiry, artistic and technological skills to allow them the freedom to enjoy their learning and experience a variety of opportunities for independence.

In Maths we will cover how to add and subtract numbers up to 100 with exchanging; multiply and divide by 2, 3, 5 and 10 using an array to help us; learn the properties of 2D and 3D shapes; understand positional and directional language; find ½, ¼, and 1/3 of shapes, numbers and objects and answer questions about bar graphs.

The children will get to write a range of genres such as stories, poems, newspaper reports and information texts.  They will learn to include a range of sentence types in their writing, use different conjunctions, apply punctuation accurately, describe using expanded noun phrases and develop their spelling skills to spell contractions and words with suffixes accurately.

Home learning

To deepen their understanding and to build on these creative elements in school, we have included several enrichment tasks in their new homework menu. Please take the time to support your child when completing their homework to share their excitement of this topic.

When you spend time with your child at home, please encourage them to broaden the range of books they read with you. We also thank you for your support and dedication to allow the children valuable and additional reading time at home.

Our PE day is Tuesday.

The children are brilliant at remembering their PE kits but please remind them on their PE day.

If your child does not have a Salfords PE kit (as it is being ordered or misplaced), could you please try to ensure that blue or black coloured items of clothing are used.

Finally, we would like to thank you for the continued support you give as parents to our Year 2 children and Salfords Primary School. Our pupils try to show as many school values as possible on a daily basis because they aspire to be great role models for the other children!

If you ever have any queries or questions, please do not hesitate to contact either class teacher.

Thank you and 'Be your best'!

Miss Standring/Mr Welch
