Welcome to Year 1!

We are going to have a great term and are looking forward to all of our exciting topics this term. This website will be useful place to help to keep you and your child organised. It will also tell you all about the amazing things we are doing in lessons.

Reading at home and Notes to Class teacher

Please ensure that you record your child’s daily reading in their planner and that it makes its way into school every day. If you wish to write a note to me, you can write it in the daily reading comment as well.

Home Learning

Your child will be given spellings to learn every Tuesday for a test on the following Monday. They will be stuck into the spelling section of their planner where there is a space for them to practice writing their spellings. You can keep up to date on your child's progress as your child's test will be photocopied and sent home to you.

Children will also be given homework on a Thursday to complete for the following Wednesday.

Our Topic this half term

This term our topics are Toys from the Past and Pirates!

Please see the attachment below to find out more information.

Reminders:

PE will be every Wednesday, so please ensure that your child has their kit every week and that any earrings have been taken out.

Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school every day and it has water in it only.

If you have any quick questions, please come and see me after school or on the playground before the day begins. If you wish to have a slightly longer discussion, I am happy to arrange an appointment with you.

Our Topic this half term

This term our topic is Superheroes, which all the children are really enjoying.

In English, we will be focusing on key reading and writing skills using stories about Superheroes as our inspiration. We will be looking at books like The Astonishing Awesome Man and Elliot Midnight Superhero.

In Maths, we will be focusing on Number skills in particular this half term. The children will be counting and writing to 50, forming their numbers correctly and improving their skills with addition and subtraction.

In Topic, we will be looking at real life heroes like Nelson Mandela and Florence Nightingale.  These significant people also demonstrated our school values of Respect, Kindness, Courage and Excellence.

We will also be investigating the seasons in Science and how they change, and looking at the human body.
